Many patients in Hubballi, Dharwad and other parts of North Karnataka are unaware that government financial assistance and health schemes may be available to eligible patients.

Government documents describe assistance for eligible poor patients receiving treatment at designated government hospitals.

Therefore, patients with serious illnesses other than cancer should also ask whether they qualify for applicable government assistance.

What Should a Cancer Patient Do First? If you or a family member has recently been diagnosed with cancer and treatment is financially difficult, follow these steps:

Step 1: Obtain the complete diagnosis and staging information.

Step 2: Ask your oncologist for a written treatment plan.

Step 3: Obtain an approximate treatment-cost estimate from the hospital.

Step 4: Ask the hospital's AB-ArK/insurance/social-work/financial-assistance desk to check all applicable schemes.

Step 5: If considering CMRF assistance, ask the hospital team about the current application process and required documents.
